US Ambassador to Kosovo Greg Delawi, in an address to the media today, has spoken to the Special Court, where he has warned the Parliament's deputies as well as politicians who support its abolition will face serious consequences.
This dedication is under serious threat from an initiative to undo or amend the law authorising the Special Court. This effort presents a terrible example of the case when self-interest prevails over general good and over Kosovo's interests as a state. MPs who support this initiative and politicians who press it despite their denial will undergo specific and severe consequences. They know this because we told them”, the chief American in Kosovo said.
Delawie has said the purpose of establishing the Special Court in Kosovo is during the Kosovo war, some individuals who have fought for the fair cause for freedom have committed serious crimes against others.
Kosovo has established the Special Court to bring to justice all those individuals who have been charged with committing crimes against individuals during the Kosovo war for freedom. The Special Court is not for justice, for an army or an ethnic group, concerning justice for individual victims. Kosovo fought a war in 1999 and we stood by your side, stood with the victims and stood by justice. No one will ever be able to rewrite history books in the campaign of cruel crimes of the Republic of Yugoslavia. But the reality is that some individuals who have been fighting for the right cause of Kosovo's freedom have committed serious crimes against others who must render an account of”, the US ambassador to Kosovo points out.
Delawie has said that Kosovo must be ready to conclude this chapter in its history, even if it means that some of its wartime leaders must render an account.
He said the Special Court is very important for the United States, European integration, as well as joining international organisations involved NATO and the EU.
