Petty “has been tested by many serious diseases... mostly a broken hip”, the statement said.
Family members say they believe he was using prescription medication when he died in October 2017 at the age of 66.
Petty won the reputation of Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers, with hits like American Girl and Breakdown.
Petty was found unconscious, and without breath and full cardiac arrest at his Malibu house on October 2nd.
He was taken to the hospital and died later that evening.
Petty's family met with a doctor Friday morning and announced fans to the late singer on Facebook.
We knew before the report showed us that it was described with various medications of pain for a number of issues, including Fentallil Arna and we feel sure that this was, as the doctor discovered, a unfortunate” accident.
They added that his death “could cause a further discussion on the opium crisis, and we think it is a necessary and healthy discussion”.
Years of drug surveillance against opioid pain in the United States have created a nationwide addiction crisis, with patients turning into heroin and other street drugs when their bans affect them.
In 2016, opium overdoses increased by 28%, killing 42,249 people. /Indesksonline/
