The new Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz, 31, held a meeting today with his German counterpart, Angela Merkel, in Berlin, on the issue of asylum seekers.
While Kurz has been at odds with Merkel over its previous refugee and asylum seekers policy, the German leader agreed last week to impose an annual restriction on the number of refugees by 180,000-2000 in talks on forming a government coalition.
Discussions on the legality of setting a higher limit for asylum seekers under international law and the German constitution echo the debate of the former Austrian coalition government in January 2016, when they set a limit to the number of new asylum applications by 37 500.
So far, the annual established border of the number of refugees arriving in Austria has not yet been reached, but the refugee issue continues to remain one of the multidisputed topics in Austria mainly during the October general elections, resulting in the formation of a new coalition between Kurz OeVP and the Freedom Party ( FPOE), I follow Atish.
The number of refugees arriving in Germany has also been lower.
Recent official records showed that there were some 186,000 asylum applications in Germany in 2017, up from 280,000 in 2016.
