Macedonia's Deputy Prime Minister, Bujar Osmani, has met with Greek officials in Athens in an effort to resolve the old dispute over two decades over Macedonia's name.
“We are committed to finding solutions in these six months”, Mr. Osmani said, following yesterday's talks and adding that “2018 is the golden year for the opportunity for my country to make progress in understanding Euro-Atlantic integration”.
This meeting took place ahead of the new round of UN-mediated talks between Macedonian negotiator Vasko Naumovski, and Greek man Adamantios Vasilakis, expected to be held on January 17th in New York, Free Europe have told Radio Free diplomatic sources.
Greece disagrees with the name of its neighbour, from Macedonia's independence in 1991, arguing that this name represents territorial claims in parts of Greece, which have the same name.
Greece's objections have complicated Macedonia's goal of NATO integration and the European Union.
