Serbia Mijailo Mijailovic 14 years ago, just 10 September has killed Sweden's Foreign Minister Anna Lindh.
Anna Maria Lindh was a Swedish Social Democrat politician, head of the Social Democrat Youth League from 1984 to 1990, and a member of parliament from 1982 to 1985 and 1998 to 2003.
She was the environment minister in 1994, and from 1998 she was Sweden's foreign minister,
Lindh in the afternoon of September 10th was attacked at a shop in Stockholm, where he was buying new clothes for a television debate over the referendum on adopting the euro from Sweden (which she supported). She was stabbed in the chest, stomach and arm.
Lindh was sent to Karolinska Hospital, where he underwent surgery and blood transfusions for more than nine hours. Lindh is said to have experienced internal bloodshed and liver damage, and at 05:29, she was declared dead.
The killer escaped after the crime, and according to eyewitness testimony, his actions seemed intentional and systematic.
On 24 September, police reported that a suspect -- Mijailo Mijailovic, born in Sweden by Serbian parents -- had been detained and arrested. On September 25th, it was reported that Mijailovic's DNA profile coincided with the hair on a baseball cap left near the crime scene, and it looked like the person filmed in the store where Lindh was attacked.
He was found guilty in a trial held from 14 January to 17 January, and after a psychiatric evaluation was sentenced to life imprisonment on 23 March.
Mijailovic has given up Swedish citizenship and has asked to be transferred to Serbia, but has not been approved.
