Russian President Vladimir Putin has been making fun of American diplomats, following their demands to impose similar sanctions on Russia as North Korea, saying that “this demand comes from the same people who confuse Australia with Austria”. Placing the stricter sanctions on North Korea on its nuclear missile programme would be counterproductive, and threats of military action could cause a global “disaster”, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.
Putin, speaking Tuesday after a BICS summit in Xiamen, China, criticised the crisis of American diplomacy and called for new talks, saying North Korea would not stop testing the nuclear missiles programme until it felt safe, the “Alzeera” reported.
“Russia condemns North Korean exercise, we consider it a provocation... but the establishment of military hysteria will lead to something bad, furthermore this could lead to a global catastrophe”, Putin said.
“There is no other way than from a peaceful”, he said.
Nikki Haley, US ambassador to the United Nations, said Monday that the North Korean leadership was “seeking war”, while she urged the Security Council to impose tougher measures against this country following the most powerful nuclear test it has experienced in recent days.
“It is ridiculous to put us on the same list [of sanctions] as North Korea and then ask for our help in imposing new sanctions on North Korea”, Putin said.
This is done by people who confuse Australia with Austria”, he said.
Russia, which shares the border with North Korea, has repeatedly joined China by calling for negotiations with North Korea, suggesting that the US and South Korea stop all possible clashes of a North Korean war with the latter preventing its testing program.
