E-mail users have been warned as 23 million messages infected with Malware Locky have been sent to addresses different from cybercriminals this week.
A large quantity of virus-affected e-mails were sent to different addresses just this Monday.
E-mails contain various topics, such as “please print” (please print), “photo” (foto), “documents” (documents) and “images” (i).
Messages also come with the ZIP appendix and if you see any such message from any suspicious address, don't click on it, KosovoPress broadcasts.
The ZIP contains the Visual Basic Script (VBS) file and if executed, then it will start downloading the Locky virus.
Once the encryption process is complete, it will add “.lukitus” extension to all of the victim's infected computer files.
The hackers will be asked by the innocent victim to pay 0.5 Bitcoin to open the files again.
The vansomware campaign was discovered by AppRiver, who described it as the biggest campaign that was seen in the second half of this year.
E-mail users are suggested to make a back-up of their files for the worst possible case.
Locky's one of the most successful international variants of all time.
