The figure was released Friday by UNHCR spokeswoman Vivian Tan, and represents a huge increase of the number from 164,000, as it was the day before.
“Numbers are alarming. This means that we have to increase our response”, Tan said, and added that the situation in Myanmar “should urgently be addressed”.
Violence there has erupted on August 25th and caused international outrage.
Refugees accuse the security forces in Myanmar and Buddhist crowds of burning their villages.
The government says security forces are responding to an attack by the Rohingya militants against police roadblocks, which occurred last month.
