The nurse has discovered the most common things her patients have repented of on the brink of death. She writes that nearly all patients were most concerned about the relationships they had built with others, and that being truly happy was not because of money, fame, or success.
Ware says: “People are deceived after their financial jobs as much as possible. And finally all that matters to them is love and relations”.
These are the things that most have repented of on the brink of death:
1. If I had the courage to live the life I really wanted, not the life that others wanted me to live
This was the most common repentance of people whose lives had been controlled more by others than by them themselves.
2. If only I hadn't worked so hard
Every male patient regretted it. They felt that they had spent very little time with their family.
3. If only I had the courage to express my feelings
Many patients confessed that they had maintained their feelings in order to maintain peace with others. Ware said that most were ill because of the resentment they had felt as a result of hiding true feelings.
4. If only I could spend more time with friends
It can be difficult to spend a lot of time with friends when we grow up and life gets harder, and it's not unusual to forget people while living life. Patients on the brink of death had not really realized the value of their friends until it was too late.
5. If I were happier
Many of them had not realized to the brink of death that happiness is a solution we make, said Ayer. Fear of change, the satisfaction of others, and the general habits they had established in their lives had prevented them from being happy.
