Facebook has announced plans to transform central offices into Silicon Valley into a <x0-vitrate” complete with stores and 1,500 homes.
Plans for “Campus Willov” were prompted by inadequate housing and public transportation for Facebook employees, according to Deputy President for Global Wealth and Real estate John Tennes.
Technological companies in the San Francisco area have long been blamed for making the area unaffordable, the newspaper Express broadcast.
But Tennes said the company wants to contribute to the community, and 1,500 houses will be available to all employees.
With the construction plan, Facebook said it wants to invest in Menlo Park, a town about 45km south of San Francisco, where it moved in 2011.
The proposed Willow campus will include 1.75mm m2 office space, 125,000 m2 m of retail space, and 1,500 houses opened to company people.
