In a lab west of China, filled with glass tests and buzzing cars, “Ford Motor Co” is using a new weapon to lure buyers amid concerns about a slowdown in industry growth and wild competition: the aroma.
A team of assessments, also known as the “gold”, carefully test the scent of every material used in the machines of this company destined for the Asian market. The smell test is not remarkable, but the purpose in this case differs greatly from its use in other parts of the world. While American and European drivers enjoy “render” of the new car, consumers of the world's largest automotive market cannot bear it.

I don't like the smell of new cars. I think that unpleasant aromas can affect the human body and its sensitivity. If it is serious, it threatens to affect your health too. Personally, I think it's better that the newly purchased car doesn't smell at all”, says Zhao Young, consumer.

The smell of a new car can have a big impact on China. A 2016 report by J.D. Power shows that the unpleasant aromas of cars were listed at the top of the discontent of local car executives, even overcoming concerns that could spring from engine problems, noises, or fuel spent. To respond to this situation, “Ford” reinforced his team in China with 18 perfumers undertaking about 300 tests a year.
