According to a new study by the Swiss Centre for Economic Research (KOF), on average, workers work 1562 hours a year in Switzerland.
By 1950, Swiss workers had registered 2400 hours a year, as writes “NZZ am Sonntag”, traces albinfo.ch.
By the time people worked seventy-49 hours a week, it's now less than 42 hours. The working hour is slightly higher than in France (1474 hours), even though the allowed legal time of 35 hours a week is very low.
By “NZZ am Sonntag”, the reason for the small difference is the high part of a short-time job in Switzerland. 37 percent is about twice the figure in France. Only 41% of women work full-time. And the percentage of people has dropped to 83%.
For statistics, persons who have half a day a week are also considered fully employed.
If previous generations enjoyed two weeks of vacation a year, we now have 5.2 weeks on average. And in 1950, only one person in seven could rest on Saturday.
Michael Siegenthler, researcher of NZZZ, said the massive drop in working hours shows the impressive increase in Swiss prosperity.
How many hours a week do they work in other countries? In Austria (1608 hours), in Great Britain (1674 hours) and especially in the United States (1770 hours). Germans score the lowest value by 1371 hours a year.
By “NZZ am Sonntag”, in South Korea they work 2213 hours, so many had worked in Switzerland for the last time in 1966.
