UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres said that the right look of the past is needed so that horrible crimes such as the genocide in Srebrenica never repeat, reports Anadolu Agency (AA).
Today marks the 22nd anniversary of the genocide in Srebrenica, while Guterres delivered the message in which the UN must also admit its role in adopting such a terrible crime.
Guterres recalled that genocide in Srebrenica has been the most terrible crime that has occurred in Europe since the founding of the United Nations.
Today we remember thousands of men and children killed. We socialize with the families and friends of the lowly. The terrible events in Srebrenica from July 1995 are historical truths and are detailedly documented. International Court I The ICTY and the ICC have indicated that he was genocide”, Guterres ordered.
Guterres also said the UN accepts its share of responsibility for Srebrenica and works on it through these mistakes to learn lessons and never repeat it.
Stressing that for a good and common future of the community, it must necessarily accept the fact and historical truth, Guterres said he is determined to support the process of establishing lasting peace and stability throughout the Balkans.
