The Dubai police department plans to equip all detectives with smart Google Glass glasses to help them fight crime using facial recognition technology.

This device consists of a small computer screen mounted on the edge of the glasses frame, which is capable of shooting pictures, recording videos, and playing music.

A police spokesman in Dubai confirmed to the newspaper 7 Days in Dubai that the software created by Dubai police will enable the link of glasses to the database of the wanted persons.

Once the device recognizes a suspect, based on facial appearance, it will send users a signal. Initially, this device will be used to stop those who violate traffic regulations. In phase two, this device will be used by detectives.

The American internet company said in a post on its blog in May that anyone in the United States could buy a $1,500 device. Dubai police are known for the numerous expenses they use to equip their employees. Last year the Dubai government announced it would equip police with Lamborghini sports cars.
