Ballist Morina has sought political asylum in Croatia

Ismail Morina lawyer Darko Butigan has confirmed to BIRN that his client has applied for asylum in Croatia, as he thinks there will be no fair trial against him in Serbia. After a court in Dubrovnik, Croatia, decided on his extradition to Serbia, Butigan appealed the case to the Supreme Court.
“Zaconally takes two to three months to make a decision, but the demand for asylum will postpone extradition for a period of between six and ten months”, Butigan was quoted as saying.
On the other hand, Albanian politics has started to move to prevent Morina's extradition to Serbia. On 11 August, a Court of Appeals in Croatia will consider the defence party's request, which opposes the decision of the first court there, to extradite Morina to Serbia.
Morina was arrested in Croatia after being declared in search of Serbian authorities, as the suspect of setting up the driver over Belgrade Stadium in October 2014 (during Serbia's match Albania), with the flag of “Greater Albania”.
