Seventy residents in a rural Afghan area were taken hostage, along the main highway south of the country, where at least seven people were killed, the head of the Kandahar province police announced, who accused the Taliban of the act.
About 30 residents have been released, but at least 30 others turn missing, General Abdul Razic, the province's police chief, told the media.
He confirmed that the event was recorded along the highway linking Kandahar, the province's cross-country and the main southern town of Tarin-Kot, the head centre of the Uruzgan province, a troubled area under rebel monitoring. The latter have not responded to this information and taken no action of kidnapping.
