UNMIK announced that in December 2016, it sent Interpol the mark of Kosovo authorities, through which the arrests of 20 Kosovo citizens were required to be expelled, Tanjug suggests.
The United Nations Mission in Kosovo thus mediated between Pristina and Interpol on the basis of its role in keeping with UN Security Council Resolution 1244.
So it says in the communiqué, which UNMIK Public Communications and Public Communications Office spokesman Sanam Dollatshah has sent to Tanjug in response to the agency's question. U n The NMIC has given the consent that it wants to sidetrack the warrants for arrest of Kosovo's current prime minister, Ramush Haradinaj, whom Serbia charges for war crimes, as well as what nature they are, in fact, to be arrested.
In clarification about UNMIK's role in Interpol's decision, the communique stresses that “in line with UNMIK's role under UN Security Council Resolution 1244 in 2002 U n NMIC has signed the Memorandum for Understanding with Interpol”.
It's about the Memorandum “Co-operation in preventing crime and in criminal justice”, whose purpose, reportedly, was to establish the framework for co-operation between the two sides, including exchange of police information, publication and circulation, access to Interpol networks and databases...
It becomes known in the communique that the Memorandum of Understanding between Interpol and UNMIK is still in effect.
Therefore, UNMIK acts as a mediator between the Kosovo authorities and Interpol, when it comes to all issues related to the prevention of criminality, police co-operation and criminal right”, the communiqué says.
In this context, says the following, U n The NMIC in December 2016 has delivered Interpol the UN Security Council Resolution 1244, in which the exemption of international arrests against 20 Kosovo citizens is required, and it has done so on the basis of UN Security Council Resolution 1244, “has acted in all cases in the past”.
Interpol has removed 18 people from the list of fugitives from Kosovo seeking Serbia, and among those names is Kosovo Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj.
All of them are free to travel outside Kosovo's territory without any problems.
