French President: Until February we must win the fight against I SIS

This statement comes just weeks after victory was announced against IS extremists in Iraq.

Fighters of the militant group, the Islamic State, have begun fighting in this state, though they have been opposed by all sides.

In 2014 this group had taken control of much of the territory, but has lost it, following separate attacks by government forces, those supported by the US and Kurdish fighters.
