The number of Albanians seeking asylum in France has increased by 13.5% compared to a year ago. Journal “Le Figaro” in a scripture expresses the French authorities' concern about this enormous increase.
“A third of the population has already left the country to settle elsewhere in Europe. The purpose of French Interior Minister Gerard Collomb's two-day visit was the once-in-a-kind clarification with Tirana of positions on the migration issue. This is serious. In 2017, Albanians, although coming from a so-called safe country, mean that, fulfilling the democratic criteria sufficient for Europe, are the first asylum seekers in France: more than 7,000 applications have been deposited in a year, with an increase of 13.5% compared to 2016. But what is more disturbing is the fact that we have an increasing number of unaccomplished minors, who later become prey to criminal networks”, writes the French newspaper “Le Figaro”
French Interior Minister Gerard Collob did not hide the purpose of his two-day visit to Tirana a week ago, which was the high number of Albanians seeking asylum in France.
“I had met Mr. Prime Minister, Minister of European Affairs and Foreign Affairs, as well as Interior Minister on July 20th of this year, on some issues that are important to us, whether for illegal immigration concerning asylum seekers or for the issue of organised crime networks. We had a very positive conversation. We decided to move forward and when I see all the progress and results that have been achieved in the last few months, I can say that we are satisfied and confident about the will your side has and we together, to continue the fight in these areas and to boost co-operation between our two countries”, the French minister said at the joint press conference with Prime Minister Rama.
According to him, at housing sites in France to host asylum seekers, 20% occupied Albanians, who have come without visas but who have sought asylum. Minister Collombe offered to assist the Interior Ministry with two French officers along with those German and American in the fight against organised crime.
The issue of illegal migration requires solutions from both sides. Even the rules that are now in effect in France need improvement”, the minister said after the agreement signed with counterpart Fatmir Xhafaj.
