Holloway had a chance to close the match against Aldo in the first round, but the Brazilian resisted an American fist that then reacted by hitting his rival at his feet in an attempt to throw him on the carpet. Brazil uses its main weapon, its blow to its opponent's feet, to knock him down, but without success, as Holloway is well protected.
Some of the champ's fists completely whimpered Aldo, bleeding in the face and losing track, no longer being able to rival. And, nine seconds from closing the third round, the judge decides to stop the challenge, giving victory to the American champion, who celebrates with his family.
I'm so happy to defend my title against a champion like Jose Aldo, who was pretty strong in a cage. I knew that in time he would get tired, and I managed to get him back to “KO”. My tactic was to extend the duel as long as possible, “to take it to the deep waters, since I knew he couldn't swim as deep”. And this was a winning strategy”, expressed after the match with Max Holloway, happy to defend his first champion title.

For Jose Aldo, this is the third loss in the last four confrontations, a signal he may have to think about drawing at the age of 31. He has been twice world championed in this weight, but failed for the third time.
