Screenwriter John Hughes has written the script for only ten days, the idea had come upon him spontaneously, on a trip with his family in 1989 to Europe. Two weeks after the vacation, he had wondered what would happen if he lost one of the children.
Even though Kevin's role was set to be given Macaulay Culkin, the director of this film had again decided to hold an audition where about 200 children had been notified.
Except for Macaulay Culkin, his younger brother played in this movie.
This film is also included in the Guinness Book. Only on the first weekend did this film raise $17 million.
