The biggest security risk in Serbia is the status of the southern province and its unilaterally declared independence (referring to Kosovo and declaring independence), warns Serbian Major General Ljubiša Dikovovic.
Dikovic, during the recent war in Kosovo, was chief of the military, who was also previously suspected of war crimes.
General Dikovic announces special units for crisis situations will be formed.
Terrorism is the world's number one enemy, which is just as threatening for us. We will create an armed elite equipped, trained and efficient, which will be a powerful obstacle to all security challenges”, Dikovic said in an interview for Vecernje Novosti, broadcast Indesksonline.
He stressed that the Serbian Army is fully prepared to protect its citizens from all threats and dangers within Serbia, but also in Kosovo.
When asked what the best organisation of the rapid reaction force would mean, Dikovic says this means the regroupment of former special units groups, disbanded in 1999 after the Kosovo war.
“in order to resolve all security challenges through special forces for a short record time can solve the problem and prevent its spread”, Dikovic has said.
There is a high risk of conflict in the Balkans, he warned, and stressed that it is important that Serbia has units that can respond effectively to crisis situations.
This unit will be well equipped and supported by helicopter. That is the reason for buying new helicopters”, Dikovic has said.
Our goal is always to be willing to protect Serbia's airspace in peace, but also to enable us to strike a potential aggressor”.
He stressed that Serbia's President Aleksandar Vucic likes Serbia to have a well-equipped and trained army ready to respond to any compromised citizens' security efforts.
