Turkish dynerji Ahmet Demir (27) has been declared a hero in Germany after saving the life of Altane Mayor of the state of Nordrein-Westphaen, Andreas Holstein, when an aggressor wanted to stab him in his own restaurant.
The attack occurred two days ago in the evening hours, while Holstein, who suffered injuries to his neck, was released from the hospital in which he was treated.
Demir, who along with his father Abdullah Demir (59) saved the life of the mayor in their restaurant, relates to AA, saying that by 8:00, Holstein had entered their restaurant while he was working with his mother and father.
He relates that with the chairman, Holstein is known earlier, and he says that while waiting for his message, they had begun to talk.
This guy came in 1015 minutes later. It's normal. He wasn't drunk. He asked for a container. I also worked with the mayor. He said he'd meet with the president, but that the meeting has been postponed for another date. When the aggressor heard that, he looked at him strangely and asked if he was mayor. He responded positively. My back was turned. When I got back, he drew the knife”, says Demir.
He says that while confessing, he still feels moved by the event, adding that the aggressor's knife was at least three inches [30 cm] long. He further shows that the attacker wanted to stab the mayor in the neck, causing him a 10-15-inch wound, even though Holstein had tried to defend himself.
In those moments, I shouted to keep quiet, but he wouldn't listen and I wanted to kill him. I shot him and grabbed his hand to keep the knife away. Father and Mother came in when they heard the voices. Father was forced to take the knife to the sharp side and tried to pick it up from the aggressor's hands. Father was cut off. The attacker was very powerful. At first, we couldn't get his knife. He dropped the knife after Father grabbed him and pulled his finger back. When the knife fell on the ground, I attacked it while the three of us were still holding each other's throats”, Demir says.
Demir says that at that moment he asked his mother to call the police at a nearby station, with which a police officer ran to the restaurant, pull out the gun and head towards the aggressor.
Then a few more policemen came along, and then we all caught him together and neutralized him”, he adds.
Showing him the leftover marks in his arms as a result of attempts to neutralise the attacker, Demir points out:
Everybody would do the same. After all, it is human life. Perhaps if we were late for a few seconds, the aggressor could break it to the neck. We know the mayor. He's a very good man. Those moments were hard”.
After the event, many city dwellers with a total of 18 thousand and 500 inhabitants have come and commended the Turkish family for the courage shown.
Meanwhile, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, along with other local politicians, congratulated the mayor and condemned the attack. /Time/
