Their bodies were found at sea, and there are doubts that they may have been sexually abused and killed while trying to cross the Mediterranean.
Five immigrants are being questioned at the southern port of Salerno. A Spanish warship carrying 375 immigrants first spotted dead women in the sea.
The victims had been on a tiny boat with 64 others.
Italian media report that their bodies are being kept in a refrigerator for medical examination. Most were from 14 to 18.
Most of the 375 survivors who landed in Salerno were Africans from Nigeria, Senegal, Ghana, Gambia and Sudan, reports the daily “La Repubblica”
We stress that the smuggling gangs of human beings require about $600 each immigrant to send him to Italy.
Many immigrants have reported violence, torture, and sexual abuse by members of these gangs.

Nearly 75% of them reached the Italian coast. Many others have landed on Greek coasts, Cyprus or Spain.
