The average of 28 EU member states is 573 vehicles per 1,000 inhabitants, the absolute record holds Malta with 775 vehicles per 1,000 residents. It is followed by Luxembourg with 745 per 1,000 inhabitants. Italy is third with 706 cars per 1,000 residents. Finally there are Latvia with 391, Hungary with 377 and Romania with 308 cars [...]
Neighbors Greece and Bulgaria, which are part of the European Union, are close to the European average. Speaking figuratively, every second Bulgarian has a car. In particular, Bulgaria's motorisation rate is 503 vehicles per 1,000 inhabitants, and in Greece 566 vehicles broadcast albinfo.ch.
Of the seven countries awaiting EU entry, Montenegro has the highest motorisation rate of 283 vehicles per 1,000 inhabitants, followed by Serbia with 258 vehicles. There are 217 vehicles in Bosnia and Herzegovina, while in Kosovo, 193 vehicles in 1,000 in Kosovo.
In Albania and Turkey, there are 140 and 136 passenger cars for 1,000 inhabitants.
In Albania there are 383,000 passenger cars, but a large part of them do not meet minimum ecological rates for environmental protection. They're mostly eco-standard vehicles “euro 3”, and how far are these vehicles from the highest standard “Euro 6” can be seen from the following comparison. The rate “Euroo 3” since January 2000 limits nitrogen dioxide to 500 mg / km, as well as the amount of PM particles per 50 mg / kg. The current Euro 6 rate exceeds these limits much further, to 80 mg / km for nitrogen oxids and 4.5 mg / km for the smoke of PM particles.
