As the United Kingdom Embassy in Tirana reports, “a senior delegation, otherwise known as the Rotterdam Triangle for Public Order and Security, headed by Rotterdam Mayor Ahmed Aboutaleb, will come for an official visit to Albania from November 2nd to November 6, 20171.
But, according to the embassy's announcement, part of the delegation, besides Mayor Ahmed Aboutaleb, will also be heads of Rotterdam's legal institutions.
“Rotterdam Police Director Frank Paaue, chief prosecutor of Rotterdam Marc van Nimiegen, director of Aviation at Royal Gendarmerie, at the Ministry of Defense Brig. Gen, Pieter Simelaar will also be members of this” delegation, the report said.
The danger of restoring the visa regime for Albanians created shocks in Albanian politics during the summer months, when a Amsterdam police report urged Parliament to discuss the issue, following numerous cases of Albanian abuse with travel to the Schengen area.
The focus of this visit will be the fight against illegal immigration, human trafficking and organised crime. The arrival of this delegation to Albania is aimed at conveying the concerns that the citizens and authorities of Rotterdam have towards increasing crime of origin from Albania.
Yesterday, the Dutch delegation held a meeting at the Police Academy with Albanian authorities, but also nongovernmental organisations operating in the field of security and fighting organised crime.
The purpose of this visit, according to the Dutch Embassy, is to understand the situation in Albania, as well as the factors driving Albanian citizens towards dangerous illegal immigration routes. Along with the International Organisation for Migration (IOM), the Netherlands and Albania are organising an information campaign on the issue. /Panorama
