Next year Albania will increase 60% of its troops to Afghanistan.
The increase in the number of effectives, including a Special Forces contingent, was confirmed during Defence Minister Olita Gacka's 24-hour visit to Kabul, Afghanistan.
The minister has been hosted at a special meeting by NATO Mission Commander Resolution Spupport, General John Nicholson. He has praised the contribution of Albanian troops since 2002 to Afghanistan.
“I have a lot of officers on my staff, and I'm pleased to admit that Albanian officers are in charge of”, the American general said during the meeting.
Minister Gacka said during the meeting that commitments in operations over the years have brought more responsibility and obligations.
The decision to expand troops in Kabul and Hera is our response on behalf of strategic partnership with the US, just as we have supported the American government's strategy in Southeast Asia”, said Minister Gacka.
During the hours of his stay in Kabul, the defence minister has met with Albanian effectives in NATO's central command and at NATO International Airport “Hamid Karzai”, where she carries out the 6th contingent mission.
“We are all grateful for the contribution you make and your dignified representation of other NATO allies. On this eve of the 105th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, it's a tremendous thrill that I'm here to convey my support and the support of the government “Rama” to you and your families. You have made our page white and every day and more of us feel proud of you here in Afghanistan as opposed to any effectiveness of the Armed Forces in and out of the country”, the minister said during the holiday ceremony in November.
In a direct communication from Tirana, Prime Minister Rama said that although not everything that Albanian effectives in missions abroad deserve, the Government's attention to them is maximum.
Defence Minister also received from top civilian representative NATO in Afghanistan, Ambassador Cornelius Zimmermann and the commanders of the HKIA (Hamid Karzai International Airport) and TAAC Capital.
Currently, FARSH is engaged with 83 troops in Afghanistan, namely in Kabul, Herat, or Mazar e-Sharif.
