AGK reacts to PDK MP: Politicians not press campaigns against journalists

The threats occurred after a post by Kosovo Parliamentary MP Xhevahire Izmaku, who in her post accused journalist Arta Avdiu of nonprofessionalism as well as political animations, despite the latter, only that she was doing her job.

The following is the complete reaction of AGK's:

The Kosovo Journalists' Association has met with concern the announcement of member Arta Avdiu that she is being threatened through various messages.

The threats came from a post by Kosovo Assembly MP Xhevahire Izmaku, who in her post accused journalist Arta Avdiu of nonprofessionalism as well as political animations, despite the latter, only that she was doing her job. AGK, considers that MP Izmaku's approach is not the best form of expression of opposition in relation to the work of journalists.

AGK, wants to make clear to the MP in question that journalists have the right to ask any questions if they consider they are in the interest of public opinion.

The AGK calls on political representatives to choose professional forms of expression of their opposition in relation to the work of the media and journalists.

At the time when our country is facing a serious situation in terms of journalists' safety and respect for media freedom, any incentive or launching lynching campaigns on the part of politicians can produce consequences for journalists. We believe that journalists today, more than ever, need the support of all institutions, this is due to the fact that only until this phase of the year in police have 23 cases of threats, attacks or other forms of pressure and blackmail against journalists.
