No one else was on the plane at the time.
The defence ministry called the pilot Lieutenant Fernando Perez Serrano, 26, from Murcia.
Images displayed in Spanish media showed signs of smoke coming off the base.

“As a result of the accident, which occurred during the launch maneuvering, the plane pilot died”, the ministry in Titter said.
He said there were no details about the accident.
It was the second plane crash in less than a week. Last Thursday, Eurofaster's pilot died as the maneuvering took place on a base in southeastern Spain after taking part in a military parade in Madrid. /Periscopi/
