On Monday, Iraqi government forces launched a major “operation” to regain Kirkuk's main fields, reports “Al Jazeera”, Periscopi broadcast.

For three days, thousands of Kurdish fighters Pesmerga and Iraqi government troops supported by Iranian paramilitaries known as the Mobilisation People Forces (PMF) have been on armed action in the opposing city, located in northern Iraq.

The escalation line comes after a controversial 25 September referendum on Kurdish partition, rejected as “unconstitutional” by Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abad.

Military analyst and Lieutenant Pesmerga Mohammed Saber told “Al Jazeera” That the war of all time was impossible at this time.

He [Abad] fears that if they wage a full frontal fight, many different sides will be involved and he will lose many of his supporters,” said Sabre.

He understands that a war needs troops, financing, and psychic support. Currently, Iraq is going through a very big economic crisis, political and regionally, it is not the time to have war”, he added.

The parliament dominated by Rain in the country has legislative powers over such decisions. Sabre said Iran was pushing Obadiah's government to launch a war in the semi-anom Kurdish region.

According to local media reports, Iran's Revolutionary Guard elite has deployed a number of its troops to the south and west of Kirkuk.

Oil's Great Wealth

In Iraq, ethnic and tribal leaders have gathered many of the groups fighting among the PMF. Warriors are either loyal to religious scholars, Iraqi political leaders, or to Iran's revolutionary guards.

Under Obadiah, The PMF became an armed group accepted by the state of the mainly Shia fighters.

Although Abad earlier promised not to fight the Kurds, on Monday he led the Iraqi Armed Forces for <x0->import security at Kirkuk” in co-operation with the city's residents and the Pesmerga forces.

Kurdish Pesmergas forces took control of the oil-rich Kirkuk after the Iraqi army flew from a major offensive by Iraq's Islamic state and the Levant Group ( ISIL, also known as I SIS) in 2014.

Since then, there is no agreement between the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and the federal government in Baghdad about those who should control the area and benefit from its large oil assets.

The multiethnic city is home to about one million Arabs, Kurds, Turks and Christians. Deep hostility among the many Iraqi minority communities in the north dates back to decades in the government's Arabisation campaign, with the aim of shifting the country's demographics in favour of the Sunnite population. The campaign displaced hundreds of thousands of minorities from northern Iraq, but thousands of Kurds returned to Kirkuk after the US-led invasion of Iraq in 2003.

Kurds are the largest minority in Iraq, representing about 20 per cent of the population. About six million Iraqi Kurds live in northern Iraq, and more than 78 per cent of legal voters have voted overwhelmingly in favour of Kurdish division last month.

Although the Iraqi constitution granted them autonomy in 2005, the central government has always strongly rejected the possibility of secession.

Mohammed Ali, a member of the KRRCE parliament, said his government is trying to get back to the negotiating table.

“We have called for negotiations and co-operation with the central government in Baghdad, but unfortunately they continue to deny the referendum results,” Ali told “Al Jazeera”.

“We believe that the referendum is a fundamental democratic right of our people. Our government will stand as it is, and we must start negotiations immediately”, he said./Periscopi/
