The Guardia di Finanza forces have blocked after a long chase into the waters of Mola di Bari a gomone with over 1.5 tons of marijuana.
The two Albanian scans, 31, and 26, charged with international narcotics trafficking if this amount had ended in the market, Italian press says, then around 15m euros would have been benefited from it.
Gomorrah was about 30 feet [10 m] long and equipped with two powerful engines. It was spotted at sea by the GdF airport, who asked the drivers to stop, but the scanners continued their navigation, which brought their spectacular pursuit across the area. Even in the last case, already stabilised co-operation among Albanian police authorities was activated, the neighbouring country's media say, through the Guardia di Finanza maritime border office in Durres.
Since the beginning of the year, over 32 tons of marijuana have been seized on sea routes and 47 scavenes have been arrested.
