He is viewed as a traitor in Madrid, but his fellow citizens consider him a hero.

The State Court accused the Catalan regional police chief Josep Luis Trapero of leaving national police and Civil Guard alone during the intervention against demonstrators.

It is the events on September 20th and 21st, when the Guard sent by the Spanish Executive ten days before the controversial referendum, confiscated the ballots and arrested 14 regional politicians and officials.

Hundreds of demonstrators prevented the police from leaving the raided object on that occasion. Trapero didn't intervene and now he's in jail. His support in the casino is huge. Regional police led by Trapero, Mossos d'Esquadra, are considered a symbol of Catalonia's autonomy and are highly appreciated by locals, especially after its professional response to the continuation of two Islamic attacks that rock the region in August.
