German Chancellor Angela Merkel has launched marathon coalition talks on Friday, hoping three opposing political camps will unite to establish a stable government.
Ms. Merkel has expressed optimism as she begins talks between her conservative bloc, the pro-business Free Democrats and the Greens, despite estimates from her own party that the future government will have less fiscal space than what is expected.
After hours of talks between parties lasting until 9:30, referred to the German local time, the secretary-general of the three political forces said there is still a long way before the so-called coalition “Xhemajka” can be reached, the Oranews broadcast.
The outcome of these talks is expected of high interest both within Germany and around Europe.
There are concerns that the European Union may remain “pa steering”, while the bloc's longest-lived leader is too busy to deal with important issues such as government reform within the Eurozone.
