Pensionor Xaj Mustafa, photographer who touched the world during the Kosovo war

A special ceremony has marked the retirement of Xaj Mustafa, a man who not only served with devotion during his professional life, but who remains one of the best-known figures in Kosovo's war history.
Xaje Mustafa became a symbol of the pain and hope of thousands of Albanian families during the war, after experiencing the suffering caused by the Serbian regime.
During the war he was imprisoned and separated from his family, spending a long period without any information on the fate of his most loved ones.
His story became known worldwide through the 1999 picture of Peter Turnley. In that touching image, Uncle Mustafa appeared holding pictures of his two missing children, hoping that someone would recognize and help him find him.
The picture turned into one of the most powerful symbols of the suffering of the people of Kosovo during the war.
However, his story took a happy turn after the war ended. After months of anxiety and uncertainty, Uncle Mustafa reunited with his family and learned that his children were alive. This reunification was considered one of the most touching and hopeful post-war stories in Kosovo.
Despite the wounds left by the war, he continued his life with dignity, working honestly and faithfully until his retirement day. / Periscope/
