Zelensky outside major corruption investigation

Ukrainian President Voldymyr Zelensky has no connection with a major corruption investigation conducted by the Ukraine National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and the Office of Specialised Anti-Corruption Prosecutor (SAPO), including former head of his cabinet, Andriy Yermak.
On Tuesday, Oleksandr Klymenko, head of SAPO, said Zelensky “has not been and is not currently involved in the investigation”, which concerns Yermak, but also Olexiy Chernysov, a former deputy prime minister and Timur Midich, the former business partner of Zelensky, writes Euronews.com, broadcast. The suspects are charged with money laundering of around 9m euros (460m hryvnia) between 2021 and 2025 through a luxury property development project near Kiev.
In addition, a incumbent president is immune to prosecution under Ukrainian law.
Anti-corruption prosecutors are now seeking the detention of Yermak. A court hearing on his case began on Tuesday afternoon, but reviewing the precautionary move was postponed to allow the paper material to be examined.
“Procurory will ask the court to impose a precautionary measure (for Yermak) in the form of detention with the option of parole in the 180 million sum The UAH (about 3.5m euros)”, Klymenko said on Tuesday.
Prosecutors also demanded that the review of the evidence be held by closed doors, despite considerable public interest and direct broadcast of the session.
Tens of journalists attended the court hearing. According to defence, the case file includes 16 volumes of approximately 250 pages each, reaching about 4,000 pages in total. /Periscope
