Romanian government falls

Today, Romania's Parliament voted distrust of the government led by Ilija Bolo properan, with the initiative of representatives of the Social Democratic Party (PSD), the Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR) and PACE first Romania.
In all, 281 deputies voted in favour of the proposal, four MPs opposed, while three votes were invalid.
Proposal for a no-confidence vote titled “The Bolozhani plan for the destruction of the economy, poverty of the population and illegal sale of state property” was signed by 254 deputies.
This proposal for a no-confidence vote is false, cynical and artificial. Each country, in a host of crises, would try to consolidate governments, not change them”, Bologist complained during the tense debate held before the vote.
The centre-left Social Democratic Party (PSD) played a crucial role in the successful vote of no-confidence.
After years of criticism of the centre-right European People's Party for forming alliances similar to the extreme right, events in Romania have put the main centre-left EU group in a difficult position.
Bolojan and his centre-right National Liberal Party have been in power since 2025, following former Prime Minister Marcel Colaku's resignation. Its collapse comes less than a year after Romania held the contracting presidential election in which Bucharest's moderate mayor, Nickikhor Dan, defeated Alliance for the Union of Romanians leader Djordje Simion.
