Confrontation with police, Molottove and Gazlot pipeline, what happened at the opposition protest last night in Tirana

The opposition protest before the prime minister is accompanied by tensions and clashes between protesters and police forces. Molotots, fireworks and other pyrotechnics have been launched during the gathering, while police have been countering with water and tear gas for spreading the crowd.

Tensions also followed by the interior ministry, where opposition protests moved. Protesters were seen with fireworks in their hands as they headed towards police forces, which had created a safety cord to block the march. Following the police's intervention with water and tear gas, the protesters backed down for a few moments but then tried again to break the cord.

The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, left the blue headquarters towards “Nation Witnesses”, where the opposition had called the protest that started at 7: 00 p.m. Berisha has subsequently appeared near the Interior Ministry equipped with a gas mask, accompanied by bodyguards, senior Democratic Party exhibits and his supporters.

Protesters have called for continuing the march, accusing police of obstructing their movement towards institutions. After several attempts to penetrate the other side of the cord, they failed to break the police line. Order forces used water to disperse the crowd, temporarily removing the protesters, who later returned to clash with police.


The gathering had been warned as a talkless and long march until 10: 00 p.m. For ensuring order and security, about 1,500 police officers have been engaged on the ground, while security measures have been numerous throughout the area around the prime minister and key institutions.

Tirana police had earlier announced the deadlock of several main road axes. Since midnight Thursday, there has been a ban on circulation and parking in the “national witness segment “from the Bay Bridge “to “Meanwhile, from Friday's 1500 o'clock, the movement in the Interior Ministry's section was blocked from “Mother Teresa”, as well as on “Free Ukraine”, “pa John Paul II” and “Smail Kemali”.

Also on the ground was State Police General Director Skender Hita, who has closely followed the implementation of the measures plan and the situation during the protest.
