PDK: Kurti is legitimising Serbia's illegal structures, holding negotiations away from the public while the next institutional crisis is under way

The Democratic Party of Kosovo has expressed “deep concern” for Prime Minister Albin Kurti's recent compromises regarding the implementation of foreign laws and vehicles affecting the Serb community in the country. The PDK said that through these concessions the sovereignty of the Republic of Kosovo is directly being violated.
“With recent decisions, Kurti has made two serious concessions: allowed the functioning of Serbia's illegal institutions within Kosovo territory and legitimised the documents Serbia issues against Kosovo citizens. With their admission, he has made the illegal structures of heedare Serbia in implementing Kosovo state legislation”.
The PDK also accused Kurti of entering into negotiations for these concessions away from public attention and at the time of the current institutional crisis, referring to the failure of the president's election.
“These decisions show that Prime Minister Kurti has conducted negotiations away from public opinion, in a complete lack of transparency and at the time the next institutional crisis was under way, with which he and the ruling party are undermining the functionality of the Republic of Kosovo”.
This PDK statement comes after EU Ambassador to Kosovo Aivo Orav, at today's media conference, found that there have been <x0) intense conversations with the Government of Kosovo over the last weeks”, while he said that the official Belgrade, with which EU emissary Peter Sorensen had communicated, has been involved in negotiations.
The PDK also highlighted Kurti's statements that parallel structures no longer exist.
For years, Kurti stated that there are no more parallel structures in Kosovo, while his decisions are publicly acknowledging their existence and creating conditions for continuing their operation. Ironically, just a few weeks ago in Davos he declared before the world that parallel structures no longer exist. And now, through his political compromise, he is giving them a new legitimacy”.
The PDK went on to say that “these concessions are continuing to the dangerous logic of the Brussels Agreement and the Ohrid annex, accepted by Kurti without transparency and without institutional debate, which are already producing concrete consequences on the ground at the expense of Kosovo state interest”.
“The laws of the Republic of Kosovo must be implemented fully and equally for all, while any illegal structure operating outside the state system must be closed”.
The Democratic Party of Kosovo called on the Kurti government to cut off “right away the harmful policies that are producing institutional confusion and are empowering Serbia's crackdown on Kosovo”.
