French President Emmanuel Macron on Saturday urged Israel to hold direct talks with Lebanon and offered to organise negotiations in Paris.
The Lebanese government has signalled its readiness to engage in direct talks with Israel”, he said on X, adding that “all levels of society should be represented in these talks”.
“Finance is ready to facilitate these talks by organising them to Paris”, Macron followed, adding that he had spoken with Lebanon's president and prime minister, this former French protectorate.
Everything must be done to prevent Lebanon from falling into chaos”, Macro added.
“Hezballah must immediately halt his reckless course. Israel must abandon plans for a large-scale offensive and cease its massive air attacks”.
Lebanon was involved in the Middle East war last week, when Iran-backed Hezbollah began targeting Israeli military countries in response to Iranian Supreme Leader Aytolah Ali Khamenei's murder in the US-Israel attacks, as well as Israeli attacks on Lebanon, despite a ceasefire reached in November 2024.
Israel expanded its campaign that same day with air strikes in the southern suburbs of Beirut and areas in southern and eastern Lebanon.
