How Kosovo, Balkans Risked by Middle East War

However, the possibility of conventional attacks is estimated to be limited.

Adrian Steun, security expert from the International Centre against Terrorism, says Iran is technically likely to launch medium-range missiles in the direction of the region, but “to reach the Balkans, those missiles must cross over NATO countries such as Turkey or Greece, which have antiaircraft defence capacities”.

The Union cites other dangers, such as economics, hybrid warfare, terrorism, and the shift of Allied attention elsewhere.

He cites Kosovo, Bosnia and Herzegovina as the two countries that can feel more the consequences of war in the Middle East, reports REL, broadcast Periscope.

According to him, it is disturbing the risk that third actors, such as Russia or Iran-related groups, take advantage of Western attention from the Balkans to the Middle East to affect the security situation in Kosovo.

“Russia can encourage and encourage Serbian paramilitary armed groups to carry out provocations or infrastructure sabotages, which can lead to armed clashes”, Steun says, recalling the attack on Banjska or the explosion in the Iber-Lepenci channel.

It does not rule out the possibility of Iran trying to signal the presence of the American Army in Kosovo, given the current revenge actions against American bases in the Middle East.

According to him, there are radicalised individuals who may not be directly controlled by Iran, but who, based on the narrator that the US is attacking a Muslim country, can conduct terrorist attacks on American presence in easily accessible public places.

Steun says the propagandist's concern to present the Western world against Islam creates divisions in society, and that Kosovo should seriously address this at educational levels.

“Sic is mathematics, physics, we need to have subjects dedicated to schools to increase social immunity from such ideological agendas”.

Speaking of the approach Kosovo institutions should have towards the current security situation, Steun warns of the need for internal political stability.

He questions whether Kosovo can achieve a very close commitment to strategic defence partners, when the whole focus now and how many months it is in functioning institutions.

“must increase vigilance, both in defence and diplomatic plans. The defence is not only with bullets, we can talk about making a factory that produces bullets in Kosova', but it's only for public consumption, because today you see if someone's using bullets in the US-Iran” war, Steun says. /Periscope
