Violence erupts in Mexico following the murder of drug boss El Mencho

Nemesio Orguera Cervantes, known as “El Mencho” was the leader of the formidable Jalisco New Generation (CJNG) drug cartel, who died after being seriously injured in clashes between his supporters and the military on Sunday.

Four CJNG members were killed during the operation in the town of Tapalpa, in the central-Western state of Jalisco, and three military members were also injured, the Mexican Defence Ministry said.

Revenge for the drug boss's death has prompted violence to spread to at least a dozen states, with CJNG blocking the streets of burning vehicles.
