Three Other Skiers Die From Orients in Austria

Authorities said three other skiers were killed today by airports in Austria in the recent fatal incident this winter.

Two people were found dead after an avalanche at the ski resort of Sankt Anton am Arlberg.

“Victims were extracted from the snow, but it was not possible to save”, a police spokesman said. Three other people were injured. Authorities initially gave no details about the identity, age or nationality of victims.

Earlier, a 42-year-old German skier died in an avalanche at the Nauders ski resort in Tirol. The man was skiing off the runway with his 16-year-old son, who survived with serious injuries, police said. They were trying to cross the northern slope when a piece of snow about 400m wide was broken, keeping them some 200 to 300m under the hill.

In some parts of Tirol, up to 18 inches [40 cm] of fresh snow has fallen in recent days. Authorities have warned that the possibility of new orientation remains high. More than 30 airports were registered in Tirol on Wednesday alone. Three people died in Tirol and in the nearby district of Voarlberg.
