“I also apologize for the situation in which I have placed the Royal House, especially the King and Queen”, she said in a statement of the palace after days of increasing pressure to address the issue.
Harald V and Queen Sonja, both 88, have not commented on the findings, broadcast Clankosova.tv.
The king met with Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store on Friday, along with the Crown Prince Haakon, who later told reporters that his wife wanted to speak: “But for now she cannot, and I also tell her that she is not allowed”, reports the BBC.
Hundreds of emails from 2011-14 involving Epstein and the Crown Princess came to light in the file archive published by the US Department of Justice a week ago.
Some of the exchanges apparently include plans to meet personally and discover that she spent four days at Epstein's home in Palm Beach in Florida, while he was not there.
The warm nature of correspondence has come as a shock to Norwegians, and she seems to have been aware that he had already suffered a prison sentence in 2008: “I Googled you after the last email”, she wrote in October 2011. “Dacord didn't look too good”.
Even though an initial statement was released last Saturday, in which the crown princess expressed regret and acknowledged the weak “prejudice”, the palace had been forced to provide further details about how well Epstein knew Epstein.
In a statement Friday, the palace said that the crown princess was deeply sad that she had failed to understand what kind of person he was.
It wanted to give a more detailed explanation, but it was in a very difficult “ositute” and it needed time to “collected itself”. It's important for me to apologize to all those I've failed. Some of the content in messages between Epstein and me do not represent the person I want to be”.
