Partys, back to president

Although there are still ten days of constitutional deadlines within which the president must be elected, representatives of political parties have not started discussions among them about the candidate. In Vetevendosje they did not talk about it, and on an opposition party, they said this is the case when subjects should be built as a bloc towards the ruling coalition.

Prime Minister Albin Kurti has not yet started talks with political parties on the president's issue, despite earlier warning that he will do so once the budget is passed for 2026.

A day earlier, the Assembly has approved the budget, and in Vetevendosje Movement, they did not show when they are expected to begin talks on the candidate for president. Neither has the head of the party's parliamentary group, Arberie Nagavci.

President Vjosa Osmani has expressed his intention even for a mandate, but it has not been declared if she has secured the votes needed to be re-elected.

In the party from which Osman came out, they have not clearly indicated whether to support him.

The head of the party's parliamentary group, Jehona Lusshak-Sadriu, has said the answer can be known only after all candidacys are formalised, reports Time.net, broadcast Periscope.

As long as we don't have concrete names, racing with concrete names, we can't give attitudes. However, the position of president is very important for each political party and for us. So with the greatest dedication, we will make our contribution”, she said of Kosovapress, but she also mentioned the earlier stay for Osman. Over the past few years, we also talked about Mrs. Osmani, her role. We've criticised him as long as we thought he wasn't a Guardian of the Constitution or even a climate among political parties. It was one-sided”.

This LDK official has said that so far there has been no initiative for interparty discussions about the candidate for president.

The “Numrat are clear in the country, each has its own parliamentary power. Political parties within parliament will have to have a discussion on the presidential post. The idea would be to find a consensual president and pass as a result of a political agreement made among political parties. Yes, according to the power we have within parliament, we welcome every invitation to discuss names”, Lushak said. “At the same time, normally we have our own names that we think of as political parties, but by then we expect the consultative phase and then decide on the concrete names, what attitude we have”.

But the AAK parliamentary group's chief, Besnik Tahiri, has said the two main opposition parties have submitted invitations to speak on this topic.

He has said that if all three parties do not get together for the president, there is risk that the entire mandate will be running separately.

“As a opposition block or we will be built on this start, or we will be broken. It's totally problematic that we're entering last week without a serious discussion about what we're going to do”, Tahiri said on Friday, at KTV's interactive” ”.

And, in the PDK, individual deputies have been declared against Osman's re-election and have expressed readiness to support a consensual candidate.

Vetevendosje will not be able to elect the president without agreement with the opposition, since in the first two votes, the quorum of at least 80 deputies is required. Kurti has said he is willing to speak to other subjects, either to re-elected Osman or to another consensus candidate.

Analyst Basri Muja says political parties should find common language for the president and avoid elections.

Its “Setibility even for a mandate is a clear political signal, but this remains a process that largely depends on the agreement within the parliamentary majority and on the possibility of securing the necessary votes. It is important that the process be completed within the constitutional deadlines in order to preserve institutional stability and avoid unnecessary election scenarios, which I think still has time to secede”, Muja has said.

This week, Parliament Speaker Albulen Haxhiu has said she is awaiting candidacy for president to invite the session for his or her election. It has stressed that the entire procedure must be completed by 4 March, but has recalled that it cannot operate without candidates depositing even pre-relief signatures.

I've just got the signatures from the candidates, because you know there must be 30 signatures from two candidates, we'll call the session and we'll proceed with it. First of all, there must be meetings with all political parties that are represented in the Kosovo Assembly in order to address responsibilities”, Haxhiu has said.

Under the Constitution, the president's election should take place no later than 30 days before the end of the current president's mandate. Osmani was elected president on April 4th of 2021, while taking office the following day. Failure to elect the head of state imposes early elections. /Periscope
