Parties awaiting Kurti's invitation to president

The Democratic Party of Kosovo and the Democratic League of Kosovo are awaiting the invitation of Vetevendosje Movement leader, at the same time Prime Minister Albin Kurti, to launch consultations concerning the election of the country's new president.

Annie why Kurti has been warning of the launch of consultations with parliamentary parties for the election of the head of state, in these two parties say there has been no formal meeting between political subjects so far. In Vetevendosje Movement, they have not indicated when Kurti will invite parties for consultations.

Kurti's party has power in the country, while the majority led by him has 66 deputies in the Assembly. President Vjosa Osmani has a mandate until April 4th, 2026, but under the Constitution the election of the president must take place a month before the mandate ends, in this case on March 4th. On the contrary, the country must go to early elections.

President Osmani is the only one so far who has shown ambition to re-channed another five-year term, yet the same has not provided 30 deputies' signatures to formalise their candidacy.

MP The PDK, Artan Behrami, tells Kosovo Press that its subject will participate in any meeting called on the president's issue, but has stressed that the choice should come as a result of a political agreement.

Asked whether they have votes for Vjosa Osmani, Behram said there has been no formal candidacy from parties that have won seats in the Assembly so far. According to him, the figure of president or president should be the personification of citizens' unity.

Waiting for an official invitation is also in LDK. MP Armend Zemaj has declared that the process of electing the president belongs to all parliamentary subjects, but that the way to achieve consensus must be the product of political negotiations.
