The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has again postponed its historic mission Artemis II. Engineers discovered a critical defect of the helium leak system in the upper phase of the missile, pushing emissions from March at least April 2026.
The technical problem was identified during the night-long routine operations at the 39B Lansing complex at the Kennedy Space Centre, a few days after NASA announced a target launch date on March 6th. The problem occurred because of a break in the helium flow through the Intermediate Pushing Face (ICPS), which is needed to print fuel tanks and safely clean rocket engines before the lighting.
According to NASA administrator Jared Isaacman, the past “Mbrem, the team could not provide the helium flow through the vehicle. This was during a routine operation to refresh the system. ”
The “irrespective of the possible defect, access and correction of any of these problems can only be carried out in the VAB”, he added.
The 32 ft Space Landing System rocket will now be back to Auto-Invention Building, where engineers partially dismantle components to inspect filters, valves and link plates. This obstacle excludes all chances of a launch in March, with future available windows falling on April 1st and April 3rd-6, defined by earth-Hun orbital geometry and safe conditions of reintroduction in the atmosphere.
Earlier, the technicians discovered a helium leak during a general wet test earlier this month, which engineers successfully resolved on the launch platform. /Periscope.
