Macros EU calls: Adopting sanctions package against Moscow, continue to increase pressure

French President Emmanuel Macron urged the European Union to continue to step up pressure on Russia in its fight in Ukraine and adopt its 20th European sanctions package against Moscow, to which Hungary has vetoed. “We will continue to increase pressure on Russia”, he said along with [...]

“We will continue to increase pressure on Russia”, he said along with Finnish counterpart Alexander Stubbb.

“We must move forward with the 20th package of sanctions from the European Union, and talks will be held in the coming days. Political commitments and the word given to the last European Council must be respected. There is no other way”, he said.

“Telegraphers from Hungary and Slovakia must address the Kremlin”, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiuha said, while Budapest threatened to veto the reopening of the Drujba oil pipeline, which has been damaged by a Russian attack.

These two countries cannot hold the entire European Union hostage. We urge both to engage in constructive co-operation and to approve responsible behaviour”, the Ukrainian foreign minister wrote in X.

The European Commission has submitted a new package of sanctions against Russia aimed at adopting it by EU foreign ministers before 24 February, the fourth anniversary of the Russian occupation.

Hungary announced yesterday its intention to veto European sanctions package until Russian oil supplies resume via the Drujba pipeline passing through Ukraine. /Periscopi/
