Kosovo Independence Anniversary marked in New York State Capitol

The ceremony was held at the New York State Capitol and marked the third consecutive year that Fall and Scarcella-Spanton sponsor a joint resolution commemorating Kosovo's 2008 Declaration of Independence and assessing the contribution of the Kosovo community throughout New York, reports  Come on. com.

Kosovo's “Independence represents insistence, sacrifice and unbeatable conviction that freedom is worth any battle”, Fall said.

“Every year that we present this resolution, we reaffirm New York's commitment to staying with the people of Kosovo and to honour generations that faced major challenges in seeking dignity and self-determination”.

Scarcella-Spanton said this year's ceremony was “A testimony to New York's commitment to staying in solidarity with the people of Kosovo”.

It described Kosovo's 2008 Declaration of Independence as a historic “, reflecting generations' dreams of a cheaper future for itself and their families”.

The event brought together leaders of the Kosovo community, activists and families from all over New York, highlighting their history, culture and contribution to public life.

Fitim Shaban, a Kosovo-born head of Asamblist Fall and former director of the senator's office for Staten Island, who stressed the importance of this annual commemoration and stopped in his personal experience.

For me, this is an evidence of survival. My family has experienced what thousands of Kosovo families have experienced genocide, ethnic cleansing and violent expulsions but who did not give up their identity, dignity, or hope”, Shaban said.

“The value of Kosovo's independence in the New York State Capitol is a declaration that sustainability is not invisible. It shows that a people shaped by losses and deportations not only coped with history but rose to lead, contribute and become part of institutions that protect law, democracy and public service”.
