The charges, which have long circulated in wartime reports, are now under scrutiny, while Italian judges investigate suspected participants from Italy.

Eyewitnessing presents a sad sight.

Aleksandar Licani, 63, a former volunteer with a Bosnian Serb tank unit, told The Times that he saw well- dressed foreigners occupy sniper positions in Sarajevo's Jewish cemetery.

According to Lican, these visitors targeted women, children, and the elderly, paying up to 100,000 euros for this <x0 mic “privilege”, with higher rates reportedly applied to shoot children or pregnant women.

After the killings, Lican said that foreigners celebrated until the early morning hours, eating roast pork and lamb and drinking alcohol.

They were celebrating the killing of people. I can't imagine how you can live with the murder of a child”, he said.

The alleged operation was co-ordinated by Slavko Aleksic, head of the Novosarajevo Centian Dentist.

Liccan claims that Serbian President Aleksandar Vuciq, then a young journalist, acted as a translator for these foreign snipers a claim Vuciq has denied.

Croatian investigative journalist Domago Margetic has submitted documents allegedly showing Vuciqi's involvement.

Confirmation by former officials adds weight to Lican's testimony.

Zlatko Miletic, the former chief of the Sarajevo police, recalled a Romanian sniper who killed more than ten people and said foreign snipers were” dug deep into the trench and hard to neutralise”.

Former Bosnian intelligence officer Edin Subasic also reported that he had met with five Italian snipers, adding that Italian intelligence reportedly intervened to stop visits in early 1994.

The historical context highlights the scale of alleged crimes, Telegrafi reports, broadcasts Periscope.

More than 11,500 civilians were killed during the four-year siege of Sarajevo and claims of <x0 sniper tourism” or “Sarajevo Safari” has been circulated for some time, but they have been largely ignored so far.

Witnesses report that shootings often increased during weekends, including visits by foreigners from all over Europe and even from North America.

As the investigations continue, disturbing claims highlight the exploitation of a besieged city.

Aleksandar Lican, who has been living with the trauma of war since then, said he hopes the Italian investigation will finally reveal the truth about “Safarit” human in Sarajevo. /Periscope
