Including Epstein's file, former Ambassador Peter Mandela is released on bail

Former British Ambassador to the US Lord Mandelson, who was arrested Monday under suspicion of “violation of duty”, was released on parole, according to London's Metropolitan Police.

We remember that the 72-year-old was dismissed from his position as Britain's ambassador to the US in September, when his relationship with the convicted US financer Jeffrey Epstain began to reveal.

A few days earlier, police had launched an investigation against him after the government of Prime Minister Keir Starmer conveyed to them the communications the former ambassador had had had with Epstein.

On Monday, he was arrested at an address in Camden, north of London, and sent to a police station for questioning.

The Mandelson case is noted to have triggered a host of resignations in the British government and the staff of Prime Minister Keir Starmer in Britain.

Meanwhile, a few days ago, British government cabinet chief Chris Wormald resigned. This was preceded by the departure of Morgan McSweney, Starmer's cabinet chief, and Tim Allan, the director of communication of the British prime minister, who is said to be aiming to restructure his staff after the Mandelson case.

Keir Starmer has come under pressure, even from within his party, to resign because of his decision to appoint Peter Mandelson as ambassador to the United States.
